Mommy and Me Workout

I am so looking forward to our Mommy and Me Workout at Coach Summit this weekend!

Baby girl and I practiced a little this morning and squeezed in a little dance session too. We’re on our way to Indy tomorrow, and this momma has lot’s to do to prepare for our trip, but squeezing in a 30 min workout helped put my mind at ease. No stress here! Just overjoyed! This was a chance for me to get healthy, share my passion for fitness, build something for my family, and connect with other women. I am so looking forward to seeing my team, and all the ladies that I admire so much. It’s going to be goooood! 

What is Coach Summit?

It is a Beachbody annual conference. There's training, workshops, speakers, super trainers, workouts, and photo ops. You have the opportunity to hear from people that work in our corporate office and connect with them. It is also an opportunity to meet with your team! Since coaching is all online community, you meet people from everywhere, and this is the time you get to be in the same place together while connecting and growing as a team.

I am looking forward to the impact this will have in my business, and my team members businesses. I will be learning, growing, and experiencing so much. I know that I will be able to apply the training to my business and continue to help people live a more health life. That fills my cup more than anything! 

I joined Beachbody first as a customer because I needed access to fitness programs that I can  easily stream from anywhere. I was able to squeeze in a workout while my daughter napped. Before Beachbody, I was a gym rat. I loved fitness, but I didn't have a good handle on my nutrition. When Rachel was born, I wasn't able to to go the gym as much as I wanted to. Being able to have access to hundreds of workouts and nutrition guides that worked around my newly mom schedule was priceless. I knew that I needed this in my life.

The days of running to the gym on a whim was no longer apart of my lifestyle.

Now I can get a great workout from home, while taking care of my baby girl. She is seeing her momma getting stronger each day, and that means the world to me. I am teaching her how to take care of herself by being an example. She wouldn't be able to see that at a gym daycare.

5 Ways I Battled My Excuses

Throughout my health and fitness journey, there is definitely one thing that hit home for me, and that was -- I am not stopping. It's apart of my life now. There was a start day, but now, there's no foreseeable end date. 

When I enrolled on my first 30-day Challenge Group, I couldn't wait to see my results. I also couldn't wait to reach the end of the my program. I thought, once I complete this program, I'll take a break. 

What I was really saying was, I will take a break on my health. Let me press pause on my workouts and nutrition, because LIFE. It get's busy, chaotic, and stressful. I am a new mom. Rachel is demanding of my time, so let me put myself on the back-burner. 

After my 30-day program ended, I went on "maintenance mode." I stopped working out, and my nutrition wasn't as rigid. And of course, my weight started piling on. 

That is when I realized that health and fitness is a lifestyle

It is ongoing. A way of life. It's not meant for a brief moment. It's not meant to be squeezed in a month before a vacation. It ought to be integrated into our crazy schedules. Life will always be hectic. We can't decide to commit to health & fitness when things "settle down."

These are the top 5 tips that helped me fit fitness into my newly crazy #momlife.

1. MAKE TIME

If I had time to aimlessly scroll through Facebook or Instagram, then I definitely had 30 minutes to spare for a workout. Instead of finding time to workout, I started thinking about how I can make time to squeeze in a workout. Sometimes I would have to say 'no' to certain things in order to say 'yes' to taking care of myself.

2. REWARD MYSELF

I knew that if I exercised and ate right that I would reach my goals, but not even that would motivate me to get up and move sometimes. Why is it that losing weight or getting healthy and fit is not a good enough incentive to exercise? I believe it is because we are so used to instant gratification, and we want to see results NOW. I remember reading a devotional from Rick Warren, and he said, "We have been so out of shape for several years, but we try to get in shape in one week." Proper weight loss takes time. Setting short term goals, such as 2 pounds instead of 20 pounds helped me maintain my workout regime, and once I met a fitness goal, I would reward myself with new workout clothes, a massage, or maybe even pizza.

3. VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE

Doing the same workout every day will get boring. I need something dynamic and exciting. Changing up my workout routine has really helped me enjoy fitness. I love Beachbody on Demand, because I have access to hundreds of workout programs that I can stream on any device, from choreography, MMA-Inspired workouts, strength training, cardio, yoga, and plenty more. My favorite program is Core De Force. It is a MMA-inspired workout that will keep you coming back for more! This superhero workout is core-shredding, and there's just something about throwing punches and kicks after a long day at work, which helps make you feel incredible. Plus, you feel like the ultimate badass while doing it!

4. TOO TIRED

We're so busy in our daily lives with commuting, working, and multi-tasking that it is no wonder why we end up too tired to workout.  “And it’s not just a physical fatigue. It’s a low emotional energy leaving us feeling negative and drained.” says Jarrod Spencer, Psy.D., sports psychologist at Mind of the Athlete in Bethlehem, PA. I actually feel more lethargic when I don't exercise. Yes, my muscles will feel sore, but I always end up feeling more energized if I maintain an active lifestyle. Right before a workout, if I start making excuses on why I should skip it, I immediately start changing into my workout clothes. All of a sudden, I get a burst of energy, and I am ready to conquer my workout. It seems that we also have to train our brains to overcome these mental obstacles. At the end of my workout, no matter what, I NEVER regret that I did it.

Exercise is paradoxical. We're spent after an intense workout, but it leaves us feeling more energized.

5. COSTLY GYM MEMBERSHIP

Although gym memberships vary in price, mine wasn't so bad. The problem was that I wasn't using it as much as I used to since giving birth to my daughter. I knew that if I wanted to get back to pre-baby weight, I would have to invest a lot of time, money and energy to get back to the gym, and that included childcare for Rachel. During maternity leave, I didn't it have funds at my disposal, and I knew that I would have to be home more, so those quick trips to the gym were no longer my forte. I signed up with Beachbody so that I can work towards my weight loss goals, be home with Rachel, and save money. I'm sure I have said this before, but I am so thankful for my Beachbody on Demand!

2B Mindset: Lose Weight Happily

Ever since I’ve partnered with a UCLA Registered Dietician Nutritionist, Ilana Mulhstein, I feel like we have the answer to losing weight. It’s probably because we do. But you know what? It’s not only about weight-loss, it’s about balance and eating with intention, and doing it the right way. Even if you want to drop 5 to 200 pounds. The principles taught on this program are lifelong.

I remember when I first started dieting. I was a very young girl. Too young to even be on one. I jumped from fad diet to fad diet; from Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers. You name it. I’ve tried them all. But, all I kept doing was being a yo-yo dieter. My weight would go down, then come back up, and sometimes I would end up with more weight than when I started. Nothing would work, and quite honestly, you can’t low-carb and count calories forever, right?

I am so determined to help people break free from these diets and truly enjoy life without feeling outcasted because their diet plan doesn’t allow them to eat certain food groups.

But for some people, it just doesn't work for them and it isn't sustainable. The goal was to create a weight loss program that will teach us how to have a healthy relationship with food so that we are in control of the food that we eat, and not the other way around.

WEDNESDAY WELLNESS - TOP 5 WAYS TO DE-STRESS IN JUST 5 MINUTES

This morning I shared a Wednesday Wellness Tip on my health and fitness accountability group, which led me to think of all the other wellness activities I implement throughout the day or week to help me de-stress.

I am a straight-to-the-point kind of girl, so I really appreciate short and sweet blogs, videos, and articles that enhance my life while teaching me something without the extra fluff. Plus, I'm a busy momma! Ain't nobody got time for that!

1. LIGHT A SCENTED CANDLE

It may not sound like a big deal, right? Try it. I tend to stick to lavender scented candles because lavender is traditionally known for having a variety of benefits that include therapeutic properties,  ranging from inducing relaxation to even medical treatment for neurological disorders. Light her up!

2. STEP OUTSIDE

Stop what you are doing. Feeling overwhelmed? Can't shake off that queasy feeling in your stomach? It is probably anxiety. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed with a certain task. By stepping outside for just a few minutes, you're giving yourself a break. A break from the hustle and bustle. A break from being a juggling act. Soak in the sun, the trees, the birds, and even the cars speeding by. Take it ALL in.

3. TURN ON YOUR FAVORITE SONG

Music is a positive mood inducer. John Mayer is my go-to!  Music has a powerful link to our emotions and it is no surprise that it is a top stress relief. (According to Google.) It gets you in a good mood. It makes you feel happy. Why? Good O' dopamine. The "feel-good" neurochemical in our brains! Play your favorite tune today. 

4. EXERCISE/STRETCH

You're probably hunched over while reading this. If you can't get up and do a quick stretch or quick walk around the office/home, then at least sit up straight and stretch your neck. You can even do arm circles, and a quick upper body stretch by stretching your arms overhead and interlock your fingers. You can turn the palms to the ceiling as you lift your chin up, tilt your head back, and gaze up at the ceiling. Thanks WedMD. This will help you relieve tension in your body, thus reduce stress. Find different ways to move your body throughout the day. 

5. CUP OF COFFEE OR TEA - WITH A QUICK DEVOTIONAL OR MOTIVATIONAL BOOK

Ah! My favorite part of the day. This is a sacred time for me. I try my best to wake up before my daughter does so that I can have this moment to myself. It helps me set the tone for the day. If you are not an early morning riser, try to at least squeeze this in for yourself at some point of the day. I love drinking a good cup of coffee while reading my devotional. Currently reading Unshakeable by Christine Caine.

These are just a few of my favorite ways to de-stress throughout the day. Try to do at least one of these throughout your day. If you can squeeze all of them, then hey, more power to you!
